Mitchell Starr, CPFA
President
HUB Retirement and Wealth Management
Background
Mitchell Starr has built a career in financial services on a foundation that most advisors don’t have: a degree in Psychology. Originally a Finance major at Florida International University, Mitch pivoted in his senior year and graduated with a degree in Psychology, a decision that has shaped his entire approach to client relationships and advisory work ever since. Recruited into the industry at a college job fair in 1993, he quickly found that understanding human nature was as valuable as understanding markets.
Mitch joined BLS Wealth Management, LLC in 1996 and became a partner in 2002, spending the following two decades helping build BLS Wealth Management, LLC into one of South Florida’s most respected retirement and wealth management practices, distinguished by an exceptional record of both client and employee retention. On January 1, 2024, the firm joined HUB International, one of the world’s largest insurance and financial services brokerages, expanding the team’s capabilities and resources while preserving the deeply personal culture that defines how they work. Today, as President of Retirement & Wealth Management, HUB South Florida, Mitch leads a team that provides comprehensive retirement plan advisory services to employers across a broad range of industries.
His team’s work spans plan governance and fiduciary oversight assistance, investment committee support, menu design and monitoring, and, critically, participant education and engagement. What sets the team apart in a competitive landscape is their integrated personal wealth management education: by providing guidance to participants regarding their broader financial lives, the team brings a depth of real-world planning experience to the retirement plan that strives to create additional value for both plan sponsors and employees. In recognition of that work, HUB Retirement and Wealth Management was named a 2026 Top DC Advisor Team by the National Association of Plan Advisors (NAPA). Mitch also serves as a contributor to The Plan Sponsor University (TPSU) program, supporting local educational events designed to help plan sponsors become more effective fiduciaries.
Mitch is frequently invited to speak at conferences and industry events. He serves on the board of the Jewish Federation of Broward County and We Finish Together, a nonprofit organization, and supports a number of community organizations in South Florida. The values that guide his professional life trace back to his grandfather Ted, who served as a father figure and whose dedication to family and work ethic continue to inspire him. Originally from New York, Mitch and his wife are empty nesters living in Fort Lauderdale with their four rescued pugs. They are the proud parents of two adult daughters.
